LeRoy J. Svoboda, 79, of St. Paul passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021, at the CHI St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021, at the Ord City Cemetery. Father Scott Harter will officiate. Military Honors will be presented by the Ord VFW Post # 7029 and American Legion Post #38. Inurnment will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
LeRoy John was born January 18, 1942, at Ord, Nebraska to Charles and Louise (Puncochar) Svoboda. He was raised in Ord.
LeRoy served during Vietnam in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969. Following the service he returned to Ord and began his career in law enforcement. In 1978, LeRoy moved to Shelton where he was Chief of Police until 1984. He moved to Hastings and was the head cook at the Front Porch until moving to Loup City where he was on the Police Force. He became 1st Deputy for Sherman County Sherriff’s Department and then Deputy for the Valley County Sherriff’s at Ord until his retirement in 2009.
LeRoy was a member of the Dannebrog American Legion. He spent his time working on tractors and taking Boom Boom for rides. His favorite pastime was fishing with his family and making memories. No matter where he went he would tell jokes with people and he made an impact on everyone.
Survivors include a son, Randy Svoboda (Crystal Asuncion) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two daughters, Candy Svoboda (JC Cedar) of Clarks and Kimberly Chollar (Charles) of Polk; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Phyllis Svoboda of Kearney; eight grandchildren, Allen Svoboda, Jamessa Svoboda, Kailey Schleicher, Kaden Stenka, Aaron McGee, Darren McKnight, Adrian McKnight, and Brayden Milhon; and one great-granddaughter, Zailhah Haven.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Georgia and William Proskocil; a sister, Charlotte Stanley; a brother, George Svoboda; infant brother; nephew and niece, Rodney and Laurie; and two nephews.
