Dwight W. Johnson, 87, of Albion formerly of Greeley County, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021, at the Tabitha Cove House in Lincoln.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 3, 2021, at the Greeley United Methodist Church in Greeley, Nebraska. Pastor Arsene Lumami and Pastor John Jorgensen will officiate. Burial will be in the Greeley Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Charles E. Martin American Legion Post #186 of Greeley. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Amity Cemetery Association. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Dwight Wayne was born December 11, 1933, in Greeley County, Nebraska, the son of Oliver and Iva (Shell) Johnson. He was raised in Greeley County where he received his early education at Fish Creek then graduated from Scotia High School in 1951.
Dwight worked for areas farmers, area gas stations and at the Omaha Packing Plant before enlisting in the United States Army. He was station in Germany and served from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958.
On March 15, 1958, Dwight was united in marriage to Doris E. Wagner at Doris’ mother’s home in Greeley, Nebraska. The couple operated a Dairy Farm in the Fish Creek area between Greeley and Scotia. In 1989, they moved to Albion where Dwight first worked at the Lumber Yard then in the maintenance department at the Boone County Health Center. Doris passed away on October 11, 2013; Dwight continued to make his home in Albion.
Dwight enjoyed attending Veteran’s reunions; playing cards, square dancing, coyote hunting and building fence. He was an avid fan of rodeos, team penning and horseback riding. He looked forward to the Greeley Rodeo and running the turnout gate. He enjoyed attending tractor pulls and dog races.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Nabach of Lincoln; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Wayne and Nancy of Grand Island and John of Albion; a daughter-in-law, Chris (Mrs. Daniel) Johnson of Belgrade; ten grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Dorathy Babcock of Kenesaw; and a brother and three sisters-in-law, Lowell and Reta Johnson of Sioux City, Iowa, Ethel Mae Johnson of St. Paul and Judy Nicholson of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris; a son, Daniel; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Marvin Johnson and Stanley and Midge Johnson; a sister and brother-in-law, Elvina and Curtis Jensen; and a brother-in-law, Carroll Babcock.
