Gary D. Walker, 73, of Ord passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at the VA Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Pastor Tom Burkholder will officiate. Military Honors will be presented by the Ord VFW Post # 7029 and American Legion Post #38. Cremation will take place following the service. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the Ord Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Sheriff’s Association and the VA Medical Center in Omaha. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Gary Donald Walker was born July 10, 1948, at Loup City, Nebraska to Donald E. and Marjorie L. (Hurlburt) Walker. He was raised on the family farm south of Loup City and received his education at Wiggle Creek and graduated from Loup City High School in 1966.
Gary served in the United States Army from April of 1968 to January of 1970. He returned to Loup City and began his lifetime career in Law Enforcement. Gary served in the Police and Sheriff Departments in many Nebraska towns from 1970 until his passing.
On August 16, 1975, Gary was united in marriage to R. Irene Burt at Wolbach, Nebraska. For the past 21 years they have made their home in Ord.
He was a member of the Nebraska Sheriff’s Association and Police Association; the NRA and Calamus Vigilance Committee. He enjoyed attending gun shows and auctions. He liked watching Old Western movies and old western guns.
Survivors include his wife, Irene of Ord; two sisters and brothers-in-law, JoAnn and Duane Scott of Arcadia and Cindy and Curt Nagel of Goddard, Kansas; six nieces and nephews, Shelly and Kevin Keene of Omaha, Shannon and Mark Hendrickson and Shane and Krista Scott all of Broken Bow, Sheila Furgison of Holdrege, Bradley and Megan Nagel of Newton, Kansas and Lori and Daniel Glosson of Columbia, Missouri; and 15 great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rita Ann Walker; and parents-in-law, Harry and Alta Burt.
