Dorothy Mae Key, 91, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2021, at Burwell Community Memorial Health Center. Dorothy was born to Anton and Antonia (Vacek) Proskocil on June 18, 1930 in Custer County, Nebraska.
Dorothy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was the 7th out of 8 children. Dorothy went to Sargent Public Schools of which she graduated in 1948. She worked in Omaha, Nebraska following her high school graduation. Dorothy then married Everett Horky on April 12, 1956. They lived in Elyria, Nebraska. A daughter was then born, Sandra Mae, on November 23, 1958, in Ord, Nebraska. Everett passed away unexpectedly on March 20, 1960. Subsequently, Dorothy and Sandra then moved to the Sargent/Comstock area, where she worked for the Sargent grocery store and the sale barn.
Dorothy married Stanley Key, Sr. on November 14, 1964 in Sargent, Nebraska and they moved to the Key family farm east of Burwell. On October 17, 1965, they had a son, Stanley Key, Jr.
Dorothy enjoyed cooking, baking, bowling, bingo, ceramics, and crafts. She especially enjoyed playing pitch with family, friends, and her grandchildren. She was also very involved in the Burwell United Methodist Church with various activities.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husbands: Everett Horky and Stanley Key, Sr., her parents: Anton and Antonia Proskocil, her brothers: Anton as an infant and Jim (Evelyn) Proskocil, and her sisters: Jeannie (Earl) Pierce, Emily (Joseph) Sinkule, Lillian (Ben) Tvrdik, Mary (Frank) Cerny and a sister-in-law, Elsie Key. As well as Leonard Proskocil’s wives, Alma and Patty.
She is survived by her daughter Sandra Clark of Broomfield, Colorado, a son Stanley Key (Kalynn) of Burwell, Nebraska, her brother Leonard Proskocil of Ord, Nebraska, and grandchildren: Erin Clark, Austin Clark, Skyler Key (Riley Lawson), and Ashton Key. As well as three sisters-in-law, Betty Jensen of North Platte, Nebraska, Norma Lee Siebler of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Bonnie Rotter Sun City, Arizona, along with nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2021 at the United Methodist Church in Burwell, Nebraska. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Pastor Serene Samuel will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 pm at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Burwell United Methodist Church or the Burwell Senior Center.
