Alma V. Valasek, of Ord, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at Grandview Assisted Living Center in Ord, at the age of 96 years.
A private graveside service will be held for immediate family members. Pastor Glenda Pearson will officiate. Interment will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Alma V. Mrsny was born on August 29, 1924 to Philip T. and Sylvia V. Mrsny in Verdigre, Nebraska. She graduated from Ord High School in 1942 and worked in California for Lockhead Aircraft during World War II.
On September 30, 1951, Alma married Harold J. Valasek. They were married for 69 years. Over the years they resided in Nebraska and Colorado. Alma worked in a small motor factory, sold Avon and Tupperware, worked at various paper factories, at Rocky Mountain Bank Note Company, as well as at ceramic and flowers shops.
Alma volunteered with Recovery, Inc., which was a stress management program. She was an area leader for 3 years in the Rocky Mountain Region for Arizona, Montana, Wyoming and Western Nebraska. In their later years, Alma and her husband worked as volunteers for the Adams County Santa Claus Shop, where Alma helped with toys and made craft items for girls ages 9-12. They also became very active in two Wood Carving Clubs and enjoyed attending carving shows displaying their carvings.
After living in their home in Thornton, Colorado for 57 years, in July of 2013, Alma and her husband Harold moved to Grandview Assisted Living in Ord to be near family, as they did not have any children of their own. Alma was a very loving and caring wife and was extremely talented. She loved to work on crafts, especially, woodworking, crocheting and knitting.
Alma is survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Mary Valasek of Grand Island; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Marv Witherwax of Ord; a cousin, Wayne Kocina and his wife, Sharon of Longmont, Colorado; and many nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold who passed away on February 18, 2021; her parents; her brother and sister-in-law Philip and Doris Mrsny; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gerald “Bud” and Elnora Valasek; a niece; and a nephew.
