Al was born on February 8, 1930, outside of Comstock, Nebraska. He graduated from Comstock High School in 1948, where he was an accomplished football player. In 1951, Al joined the U.S. Navy, and as a Second Class Petty Officer Radarman, he served in the Korean War aboard the ship USS Hollister 788.
After completing his military duty in 1955, he met Jean Collins during a snowy blind date in Ord, Nebraska. On June 8, 1958, Al and Jean were married in downtown Denver, Colorado.
In 1963, Al and Jean Moudry bought their farm outside of Ord, Nebraska, where they lived and worked until moving to Mission, Texas in 2008. While he worked and provided for their family, Al played with a variety of Czech polka bands, where his drumming skills were put to work in the recording studio, as well as numerous shows across the U.S. and Europe. Al continued playing the drums throughout his entire life, and he and his grandson, Karrington played many gigs together over the years.
As the grandson of a first-generation Czech immigrant, Al was very passionate about his heritage; he loved Czech food, polka dances and music, and many other Bohemian traditions. His devotion took him to Prague and the Czech Republic many times over the decades, where he was able to connect with his Bohemian ancestry.
Al also enjoyed spending his time outdoors. From deep-sea fishing on the open ocean to spending an afternoon on the lake with his grandsons Garret and Trenton, Al enjoyed all types of outdoor activities with his close friends and family.
Al is survived by his wife Jean, his two children, Dana and Ken of Colorado Springs, Colorado and C.B. and Kris of Raymond, Nebraska; his grandchildren, Karrington and Danielle, Garret, Trenton, and Katherine. Al’s first great-grandchild is expected to arrive in June.
Previously departed loved ones include his parents, William and Emma (Ptacnik) Moudry, his brother, Leonard Moudry and his wife, Betty; and his sister, Thelma Barnes and her husband, Virgil.
