David Lee Veskerna, 61, of Ord passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 20, 2021. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2021, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ord. Pastor Adam Archer will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Family’s Choice. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. For the health and safety of others social distancing and face masks are required for those attending the funeral.
David Lee was born on November 30, 1959, at Fremont, Nebraska to Fredrick V. and MaryAnn (Lucke) Veskerna. He was raised in Valley County and received his education at North Loup and Ord Schools. He continued his education at Southeast Community College, graduating in 1994.
David spent most of his life in Valley County. He shared many years of trucking with his brother, Rod for several companies including Bud Knight Trucking and Byron Stevens. He became an owner and operator of Veskerna Transportation and also pulled for a number of years for Jack Cody. David continued to drive for Jeffres Sand and Gravel and Ulrich Sand and Gravel until declining health caused him to retire.
David’s passion was working on trucks with Rod and Nolan. He also enjoyed demolition derby cars and working on cars with his sons. David watched western movies and especially liked John Wayne. He enjoyed his family, spending time with them and joking around with his nieces, nephews and others.
Survivors include his mother, MaryAnn Lange of Ord; three sons and daughters-in-law, Matt and Heidi Veskerna of Ord, Josh and Jami of Elm Creek and Jason Wilson of North Loup; nine grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Rodney and Stephanie Veskerna of Ord; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia and Rick Rauert of Grand Island and Carrie and Mark Siebke of Aurora.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fredrick Veskerna.
