Elva Sibyl Stevens, 96, of Ord, Nebraska formerly of Taylor, Nebraska died January 30, 2021 at Grandview Assisted Living in Ord.
A graveside funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at the Taylor Cemetery in Taylor, Nebraska. Pastor Serene Samuel will officiate. Visitation will be Monday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the Grandview employees.
Elva was born January 22, 1925 in Loup County, Nebraska to Harvey and Carolyn (Vose) Howard. Elva grew up in the Madison Square area and graduated from Taylor High School. She taught school for four years in the Madison Square Community.
Elva married Glen Stevens on August 26, 1946 in Norton, Kansas. They lived near Taylor where they farmed and ranched together. Glen died on April 27, 1990. Elva continued to farm and ranch until 2014 when she went to live with her daughter Kate. Elva moved to Grandview in November of 2016.
Elva was an accomplished quilter. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, canning and traveling in later years. She also volunteered for twenty-two years in the third and forth grade at the Loup County School with Kelly Dockweiler. She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, the Auxiliary and the Almeria Ladies Club.
Elva is survived by four daughters; Ruth and Roger Schmidt of Ansley, Nebraska, Dode and Dean Ralls of Taylor, Nebraska, Bettie and John Branch of Hot Springs, South Dakota and Kate and Bruce Morse of Sargent, Nebraska. Fourteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.
Elva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Glen Stevens, one sister, Wilma Helmkamp, one grandchild, Keith Powers and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Ralls and Dahlia Heisler.
