Betty was born March 4, 1943 in Burwell, Nebraska to James and Pauline (Pishna) Jeffres. Betty married M. Duane “Spike” Welton on May 3, 1961 in South Dakota. Spike had started Welton Trucking in 1958 and Betty joined this business. They lived on a ranch for awhile north of Burwell, before moving into town. Betty rode with Spike in the truck and also drove the truck herself. Her and Spike hauled cattle and sometimes hay all over the United States and Canada. Betty could run with the best of them. Mom liked to slip the old trucks in to neutral (Mexican overdrive) while Spike was asleep in the sleeper. Needless to say, he was not impressed when he woke up.
In 1978 Betty earned her GED. She enjoyed going out for supper with friends, gambling, horses, her family and especially her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Betty is survived by her husband Spike Welton of Burwell, Nebraska. Three children; Doug and Chris Welton of Burwell, Nebraska, Brad and Tina Welton of Burwell, Nebraska and Kathy and Eric Sorensen of Ord, Nebraska and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A brother Bob and Tricia Jeffres of Savannah, Missouri and a sister, Dorothy Cashatt of Lincoln, Nebraska.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Mary Ann.
