Betty Jean Meyer, 77, of Burwell, Nebraska died February 23, 2020 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Funeral services will 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the Burwell Baptist Church in Burwell, Nebraska. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Pastor Dave Moody will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 -7 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to Cedar Creek Bible Church.
Betty was born February 15, 1943 in Sargent, Nebraska to Lorne and Leola (Bisher) Amos. Betty went through the eleventh grade at Sargent and then moved to Burlington, Washington graduating in 1961.
Betty married Stanley Scott on June 18, 1961 in Washington. They came back to Nebraska to live in the Berwyn and Burwell area. She worked at B.D. Industries in Broken Bow and they also farmed north of Burwell. In August of 1970 they welcomed their adopted son, Michael Dee into their family. Stanley died on November 27, 1977. Betty moved into town and worked at Burwell High School in the kitchen.
Betty married Richard Meyer on December 6, 1980. They lived in town for a year and they then moved to the farm northeast of Burwell where she kept busy as a mother, wife and homemaker.
Betty was a member of Cedar Creek Bible Church, where faith was an important part of her life. She enjoyed playing the piano, sewing, quilting, playing cards, reading, collecting glasses and dolls and doing genealogy.
Betty is survived by her husband, Rich Meyer. Her son, Mike and Sarah Scott all of Burwell, Nebraska. Four grandsons, Brett and his wife Shelby Johnson and their son Briggs of Kearney, Nebraska. Jordan Scott, Jadyn Scott and Bradyn Scott all of Burwell, Nebraska.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Stanley Scott. An infant brother, Karroll Amos and a brother, Laverne Amos and a sister, Karen Miller.
