She sang from a young age and continued singing most of her life as a soloist and with her sisters and/or aunts, always being accompanied by her mother Audrey. Many people over the years were blessed with her beautiful voice and perfect group harmonies at family gatherings, church, town events and various celebrations. In her early years she also attended many baseball games to watch her Dad, a gifted pitcher who advanced all the way to the St Louis Cardinals Farm Team. In high school Nancy’s passion was music. She performed as a singer in many choirs, clarinet in the band. She loved to play the piano, participate in theatre events and music competitions. She was cast as the lead in The Music Man and did a beautiful job as Marion the Librarian.
After high school Nancy went to Kearney State College as a music major. She then met Bill Vogeler from North Loup. They met at a dance in the country in Ord where they enjoyed dancing together and ended up dancing their way to true love. They married in 1967 and had 4 children whom they raised on their family farm in North Loup. Nancy loved life on the farm and was an amazing cook. She helped with the family farm operations in many ways including taking lunch out to the fields during planting and harvest. Also, saved baby lambs from the cold winter months in her bathtub. She had a green thumb and grew beautiful flowers, vegetables and plants both out in her yard and in her home. She loved playing and listening to all kinds of music at home and would dance to the Beach Boys around the kitchen table with her children. She taught her kids to sing and play the piano. For many years Nancy and Audrey played and sang for many weddings and funerals that they both thoroughly enjoyed doing together for many years. Nancy was a member of The Valley Craft Club and enjoyed being part of the Popcorn Days celebrations and crafting with friends and neighbors in the community. In 1982, when her youngest child, Cynthe was old enough to go to school Nancy began working outside her home for Country Partners in Ord as a grain broker. She kept this job for 17 years until retirement. In 1992, their family suffered the heartbreaking loss of their son in a tragic car accident. Ryan’s memory lives on in their hearts. When grandchildren came along Nancy loved watching them grow up and was always at their sporting events to cheer them on. She seldom missed a Nebraska Cornhusker’s football and was a loyal fan. In 2009, Nancy and Bill along with their grandchildren accepted a prestigious 100 Year Farm award at the Valley County Fair.
Nancy and Bill were best friends. They enjoyed time together going to family reunions and gatherings, celebrating special occasions at the horse races, going to various restaurants for lunch or dinner and have a cold beer with friends or relatives at local pubs or cafe.
