Troy Leslie Westover, 84, of Burwell, Nebraska died December 9, 2019 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2019 at the Burwell Baptist Church in Burwell, Nebraska. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Pastor Joel Wentworth and Pastor Harry Landaw will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Burwell Baptist Church. Memorials are suggested to the youth ministry at the Burwell Baptist Church. Hitchcock Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Troy was born June 18, 1935 in Valley County, Nebraska. He graduated from Burwell High School in 1952. After graduation he traveled across the country taking care of the reindeer for different events and parades with Earl Hammond “Santa Claus”. He also rodeoed and enjoyed boxing. On January 9, 1957 he entered the United States Army and was honorably discharged on December 18, 1958.
Troy married Peggy Swartz on September 5, 1959 in Chambers, Nebraska. They lived south of Burwell where they ranched. He also helped drill wells and other various jobs and continued to rodeo. They moved northeast of Burwell in 1981. In the mid 1990’s he started to drive a truck. He enjoyed rodeoing and attending sporting events.
Troy is survived by his wife Peggy Westover of Burwell, Nebraska. Three sons, Ty and Bert Westover of Lincoln, Nebraska, Les and Tess Westover of Grand Island, Nebraska and Todd and Kathy Urbanek Westover of Mitchell, Nebraska. Five grandchildren, Nicolby and Bryce Petersen and their daughter, Rory Petersen, Luke Westover, Troy “TJ” Westover. Alessa Westover and Leah Urbanek. A brother, Norval Westover of Springfield, Missouri and two sisters, Loma Johnson of Burwell, Nebraska and Mryna and Lon Debois of Norfolk, Nebraska.
Troy was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mavis Ottens.
