Robert Gale “Bob” Kraus, 86, of Burwell, Nebraska died October 1, 2019 at the Friendship Home Assisted Living in Burwell, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2019 at the Loup County Event Center in Taylor, Nebraska. Burial will be in Kent Cemetery. Pastor Mike Carl will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to the Taylor VFW or the Kent Cemetery.
Bob was born March 9, 1933 in Loup County, Nebraska to Harry “Buck” and Vera (Lewis) Kraus.
Bob married Arlene Joyce Stone on March 21, 1953 in Taylor. Bob did basic Army training at Fort Riley, Kansas. Arlene then accompanied Bob in Lampasas, Texas for the remainder of his service. After his military service, they returned to the Kraus home place which was the oldest stick-built home in Loup County where they raised their family and farmed. Bob enjoyed being in a tractor and he couldn’t wait until the corn was big enough to cultivate.
Bob enjoyed playing horseshoes, bowling, softball, horses, coaching baseball and watching rodeos. Bob won several awards playing horseshoes at the Loup County Fair and various tournaments across the state. Bob also won several trophies bowling. He was instrumental in helping with the Taylor Jr. Rodeo and building the arena. He was on the Kent Cemetery Board and the North Loup Irrigation District Board for several years.
Bob is survived by four children; Roger and Jeanette Kraus of Stapleton, Nebraska, Kenneth and Laura Kraus of Milburn, Nebraska, Susan and Jim Robertson of Montrose, Colorado and Kathy and Casey Allen of Taylor, Nebraska. Twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two brothers, Harry Kraus and Duane Kraus.
