Gerald Laverne Tetschner, 82, of Burwell, Nebraska died August 25, 2019 at the Valley County Health Systems Hospital in Ord, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be 10:30 Friday, August 30, 2019 at the Burwell Baptist Church in Burwell. Pastor Harry Landaw and Pastor Dennis Davenport will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to the Burwell Fire Department.
Gerald was born October 27, 1936 in Garfield County, Nebraska to Jack and Nora (Abbott) Tetschner. He grew up on a farm east of Burwell and attended Willow Springs Elementary and Burwell High School graduating in 1955. Gerald then went on to meat cutting school in Toledo, Ohio.
In 1958 Gerald married Marilyn Arnold in Sparks Georgia.
Gerald entered the United States Army on September 13, 1960 and was honorably discharged on May 11, 1961.
Gerald lived in Sea Island, Georgia and worked at the Cloister Hotel and also in Metal Production in Sparks, Georgia from 1967 to 1977. In 1977 they moved to Burwell. He worked as a meat cutter at Herb’s Grocery Store and then he worked at the Alfalfa Mill and he was also a service station attendant at Burwell Independent Oil.
Gerald was a member of the Burwell Baptist Church. Gerald was a people person and never knew a stranger. One thing he missed after his health slowed him down was being able to visit will people. He loved music and collecting all kinds of things. He was a great joke teller.
Gerald is survived by his wife Marilyn Tetschner of Burwell, Nebraska. Two sons, Troy Tetschner of Omaha, Nebraska and Terrel and Angie Tetschner of Bennington, Nebraska. Three granddaughters, Sarah Tetschner of Burwell, Nebraska, Emily Tetschner and Grace Tetschner both of Bennington, Nebraska and a great grandson, Kaleb Kloppenborg of Burwell, Nebraska.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents. A sister, Dorothy and her husband Clarence Birch. Two brothers, Emery and his wife Geneva Tetschner and Carrol and his wife Hazel Tetschner.
