Dewayne Kenneth Barta, 89, of Taylor, Nebraska died June 9, 2019 at the Brookestone View Nursing Home in Broken Bow, Nebraska.
A graveside memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019 at the Taylor Cemetery in Taylor, Nebraska. Pastor Alan Petersen will officiate. Memorials are suggested to 4 The Cure. Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.
Dewayne was born September 6, 1929 to Ludvick and Leona (Fox) Barta in Dawson County, Nebraska. Dewayne went through the eighth grade and then begin to work on the ranch with his parents. Dewayne was in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After he was honorably discharge he married Shirley Witt on June 30, 1955 in Burwell, Nebraska.
They lived in Grand Island, Nebraska where he worked for Foreman Beverage Company. They moved to Burwell in the summer of 1959. He worked for Loup Valley Alfalfa and started growing calves. They moved to Loup County to the Hansen place and began farming and ranching. In the mid 1960’s they moved to Taylor, where he continued farming and ranching with his family.
Dewayne enjoyed horses, international tractors and visiting. He was instrumental in getting the EMT’s program going with the Taylor Fire Department and was one of the founders of the Taylor Jr. Rodeo. He was also a RCA card holder. Dewayne also enjoyed being part of the crew who ran the down markers at the high school football games.
Dewayne is survived by his wife Shirley Barta of Broken Bow, Nebraska. Four sons, Roy and Bobbie Barta of North Platte, Nebraska, Wade and Yvonne Barta of Taylor, Nebraska, Lynn and Jackie Barta of Sierra Vista, Arizona and Craig and Lori Barta of Broken Bow, Nebraska. Eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Dale and Sherrill Barta of Burwell, Nebraska and Larry and Deanna Barta of Elyria, Nebraska.
Dewayne was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Lola McBride, Evelyn McBride and Zona Barta and a brother, Melvin Barta.
