Mary Ann Rowse, 83, of Burwell, Nebraska died March 29, 2019 at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Burwell, Nebraska. Inurnment will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell. Memorials are suggested to the Friends of The Library. Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Rowse was born July 4, 1935 in Valley County west of Ord to John and Julia (Bower) Lola. She attended District 29 west of Ord until 1944 when the family moved to a farm southeast of Burwell. She then attended Richland School District 14 and graduated from the eighth grade. She graduated from Burwell High School in 1952. After graduation she worked at the Bank of Burwell until 1957. She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Tom Rowse, on December 31, 1953. Upon his induction into the Army and stationed in Wurzburg, Germany, she joined him there for eighteen months. After his discharge they returned to Burwell and she went to work for Rodeo Telephone as bookkeeper and held that position and office manager for 31 years, retiring in 1990.
They enjoyed traveling, going on many bus tours throughout the U.S.A. and Mexico. They went on many fishing trips to Canada and also went on a tour to China, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. After retirement she enjoyed working in the yard, planting a vegetable garden and many flowers, also feeding and watching the backyard birds. She collected many wildlife figurines and Santa Claus figurines.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, her parents, her brother Richard, sisters Matilda Nedbalek, Wilma Freeman and an infant brother; six brothers-in-law: Delbert, Eddie, Gene, Buzz, Flip and Paul; three sisters-in-law, Charlene, Eloise and Elinor. She is survived by one sister-in-law, Lenabell Rowse and many nieces and nephews.
