Barbara Badsteen, 92, of Ord passed away on Monday, February 18, 2019 at The Village at Gleannlock Farms in Spring, Texas.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019, at the First Christian Church in Ord, Nebraska. Pastor Doug Durre will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service on Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Ord Public Library. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Barbara was born August 2, 1926, at Ashland, Nebraska to Edward and Maybelle (Smith) Mayer. She graduated from Ashland High School and the University of Nebraska where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She was a member for 50 years of the Eastern Star and was their oldest living member in Nebraska.
On June 23, 1951, Barbara was united in marriage to Bill Badsteen at Blair, Nebraska. They were married for 64 years. They moved with their family numerous times during their married life, including places in Nebraska, Kansas, Alaska, North Dakota and South Dakota.
Barbara was a teacher for many years and used her English teaching skills as a proofreader at the Capital of South Dakota in Pierre. Her many hobbies included fancywork sewing, shopping, including garage sales, golfing, and playing bridge with her Ord Ladies Bridge Club.
Barb is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Dowell (Don) of Dallas, Texas, Marcia Norris (Frank) of Houston, Texas, and Martha Badsteen of Ord, Nebraska; and the best grandchildren she could ask for, John Norris, Patrick Norris, Paul Dowell, Erin Dowell, and Anna Baker.
She is also survived by her extended family, Tammi Knutson, Darci Jeffres, Cyndi Smith, Jen Sandoz, Jennifer, Jenessa and Jianna Grooms, Pat Stethem, and the many friends that assisted them.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; two sisters, Elvida Schlicker and Mary Bornman; and a brother, Edward Mayer.
