Evelyn Waltman, 89, of Ord passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at the Valley County Health System Hospital in Ord.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ord. Reverend Adam Archer will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church or the Family’s Choice. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Evelyn was born July 22, 1929, at Gothenburg, Nebraska to Eilert H. and Gesina W. (Schmidt) Franzen. She was raised on the farm near Gothenburg and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1947.
Following high school Evelyn worked at the bank. On October 15, 1950, she was united in marriage to Paul Waltman at Gothenburg. The couple lived on a farm near Gothenburg. In 1956, they moved to a farm near North Loup where they began their family farm that they operated until 1995. They continued to live on the farm until November of 2011, when they moved into Ord to Grandview Assisted and Independent Living Center. Paul passed away on February 2, 2012; Evelyn continued to live at Grandview before moving to the Valley View Senior Village.
Evelyn was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where was involved in many activities, taught Sunday School and held offices in LWML. She belonged to the Harmony Extension Club and North Loup American Legion Auxiliary. Evelyn enjoyed sewing, gardening and had an ornamental bell collection.
Survivors include, a son, Jeffrey of North Loup; two daughters, Linda Waltman of Ord and Janet Shriner of Lakewood, Colorado; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Marvin and Jill Franzen of Gothenburg and Rosemary Zeleski of Utah; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; a brother, Otto Franzen; and three sisters, Bernice Bodtke, Alvina Krueger and Lucille Sommers.
