Ord Economy Betters Nebraska and Nation

ORD, Neb. - Ord and Valley County are bucking the economic trend of not only the nation but even the state of Nebraska. Valley County and Ord's net taxable sales are showing strong growth in 2009 over 2008.

From January-July 2008 compared to the same seven months in 2009, Valley County net taxable sales increased nearly $1.4 million, or 6.56%. During the same time frame, Nebraska 's net taxable sales decreased by 2.55%.

Also, sales tax receipts for the City of Ord increased 19.5% in fiscal year 2009 over fiscal year 2008, a growth of nearly $100,000.

This economic indicator provides evidence that the Valley County and City of Ord 's economy is growing despite the recession.

But what about the "doom and gloom" campaign being ran that tells us we are on the verge of a total county bankruptcy? This article is surely just the "powers that be" yanking everyone's chain so that we will give them all our money before our local economy collapses! It's so bad that our banks are going to fail (according to Dorr's false reports), our businesses are going to suffer (meaning this article is a lie), and our residents aren't going to survive this horrible decline in business because of this "huge" tax that is being proposed.

In case you can't read it in there, I was just being a wee bit sarcastic!

I'm sure that those who see the glass as always 1/2 empty will not acknowledge that the above information is factual. However, I believe those numbers are public information. Our economy is very stable (contrary to what CARE 5 touts on their yellow postcards.) The fear tactics they use will only carry them so far. It's a shame that unsuspecting people fall victim to the doom and gloom tactics of some. I look forward to this community continuing to prosper and it appears that we are well on track to do so!
